In Which Thursday Is Better Than Predicted

Currently, I do not look forward to Thursdays.

However today was actually good. Tiring, but decidedly good ^w^

To start off, I woke up...with five and a half hours sleep. Self inflicted, so can't complain. Stayed up reading my current fanfiction love 'Saving Connor'. Great series!
Got dressed, had breakfast of yummy porridge (really was yummy), read a little bit more of 'Saving Connor', I'm up to Chap 7 of Book 4, looking forward to HP/DM <3
Decided that bus is ALWAY late heading into Upper Hutt so I thought I'd try the train, we live right between two stations and right beside the tracks, so it's really close. It was VERY cold this morning and the wind was biting, brrrr. Train was a smidgion late, but got me to WINZ on time, the get fussy and mean when you're even bit late. Train cost $2.50, a $1 more then the bus, I did not know that. Now I do, no prob. Ride was pleasant. I had loaded up Chap 7 of the fan fiction my iPod Touch 'Ozmodius' before I left the house so I read that.

WINZ was reasonably painless this week which was nice. I got one of the nice ladies.

Left WINZ. Went into Dick Smith Electronics to drop in a CV for a job they had advertised online. The guy was friendly enough. We'll see how it goes.

Carried on to the Salvation Army Store where I decided last night in my annoyance to visit while in town today. A cheer me us decision. I love looking through Salvation Army. I don't do second-hand clothes, the icky me out. But I love second-hand kitchen things, most pointedly Tupperware, I'm a little in love with it. Also, I like seeing what glasses and plates they have. I'm looking for a particular design of plates, like my parents and grandparents have. It was popluar and quite common some number of years ago, but I'm yet to find a set for sale. I keep looking.
Other than that I'm on the constant looking out for ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) vinyl and a nice quality, functioning record player.
Wasn't successful on any fronts today, but was happy I went none the less.

Moved from there to the library to return two books. One, a book of essays on Harry Potter. Didn't finish reading it. But I'll get it out again some other time. The other was 'Magician' by Something Fiest. I got it out for Glenn to read.
They're doing refurbishments to the library, adding an extra section. It looks good so far.

Walked to my parents. Still cold, but not too bad.

Go to my parents, felt a bit drained at the prospect of battling with Revit, but was happy as always to see mum. Mucked through Revit. Had a warm corn beef+piccalilli+honey mustard+grain mustard sandwich. Was great. Dad came home for lunch. Chatted to him for a bit, made plans to have a Star Trek day with him in the next few weeks. That should be loads of fun <3
Went back to Revit, made some progress.

Left at 2.30pm to head home and meet up with Mazz who I had made plans to see today before he gallivants off to America for a couple of weeks, taking my dear Mr Glenn with him. Terribly jealous, but happy Glenn gets to go. I went with Mazz last time he went to America. They're going to our mutual friend K-chan's wedding, sad I'll miss it, but they're closer to her than I am, and I can't afford to right now, I'm saving for LeakyCon 2011!
Had a lovely time catching up with Mazz. I don't see him as much as I'd like, as he works long strange hours. So glad we made plans today!
I got to see his car for the first time. It's quite nice. Nothing flash, but nice and practical.

Mazz left. I got ready for work. Read a bit more before going. Last minute decided to print off a chapter of the fanfiction as 'Ozmodius' was low on battery. Missed the bus. Drat. Called work to say I'd be a tiny bit late. Bridget was wonderful and said it was fine. Read on the bus. Didn't get bus-sick from reading. Did almost nod off on the bus though. Was quite tired when I got to work 10 mins late. Drank half my small can on Lift Plus I've had sitting in my bag for months. Felt more awake.
Work went well. Got everything done and closed up in time not to miss my bus home. It's an hours wait for the next and last bus of the night. Read on the ride home. Was more cold. Poor fingers.
Got home. Glenn was much happier which was good. He'd made Butter Chicken (from scratch) and it was YUMMY! I was soo hungry.
Read some more of the fanfiction while he played Call of Duty. Very pleasant evening.

This was a good Thursday.
I don't generally expect good Thursdays at the moment. There are two reasons why:

[Rant]  (Only a small minor rant before better happy things <3)
First and foremost, I have to go into WINZ (Work and Income New Zealand), as after I was made redundant in January this year, I was forced to go on the Unemployment Benefit to afford to pay my rent and generally eat. I have a part-time job now, but still need the extra $$ to part rent etc.

Being unemployed and treated like slime by WINZ is not a fun experience. Period.
I can understand their treatment of myself and others, to a degree. They get a lot of true scum through their doors. People who are lazy and expect society to support them without giving a gram of effort back. But that doesn't excuse the accusing treatment on the whole.
Sign.
I have been working for the last 4-5 years, paying taxes, studying a skill, and putting back into society through my toiling. I am what WINZ exists for. Supporting hard working people who are down on their luck. Who WANT to work, but due to circumstances cannot (Me: Recession and Redundancy).
Anyway, it's a stressful thing going into WINZ and being scrutinised mercilessly.
I have got a part-time job now after 5 months of searching, however the hours fluctuate anywhere from *.5-23.5 hours a week, and it's not reliable and often enough, so I still need the financial assistance to keep living.
One might think that because I only need a small amount extra $$ and that I am working, that I would get at least a small break. No such luck, so struggle I continue.

Conclusion, WINZ sucks, but I need 'em.

Second is less of a problem, more of a...bother. One I'm happy to do, but that drags at me.
This is working for my mum.
My mum runs her own AutoCAD Draughting business consisting of herself,
Recently she asked me if I would like to learn a program called Revit Architecture to help her out. I said yes as at the time I didn't have a job, and LOTS of free time. It's been interesting. The program primarily takes building plans and makes 3D models, and it's quite fun to a degree.
So learning the program's fine, and I'm more than happy to help mum out.
The problem lies in that we're kind of teaching ourselves to use it, and it's not the most self-explanatory program to muddle through. Resulting in a lot of teeth gnashing and temper-tantrums and angst. Grrrrr.
 [/Rant]

So here I am now. Wrapped up in two blankets to stay the cold. Thinking I should transfer my pillow under my bum because it's going numbish. And unwinding.
Mazz and Glenn leave tomorrow. I'm sad I can't see them off at the airport though, I have work. Pity. Oh well.

I plan to read some more, till 2am when 'Ozmodius' has had 4 hours of charge fully.
So goodnight to you Internet, though it is the early morning for you already. Enjoy your day wherever you are! Stay awesome!

Expecto Kiwiland <3
